Monday is Memorial Day. A day for cookouts and family fun ... picnics and athletics ... wait.
Memorial Day is supposed to be a day toremember. To remember all the patriots who have given their lives through the years to keep our country free.
I've heard many people say that "War has never solved anything." But it's obvious these folks have never studied history. Without war, there would have been no Revolution and we would still be paying taxes to England's King. Without war, the southern states would have successfully seceded from the union and would now be a separate country where slavery would still be legal. Without war, Hitler would have succeeded in annihilating the Jews of Europe. Without war, we would have failed to defend our territory of Hawaii. Without war, all of Korea would now be under the control of Red China. IF you want to go back further, without war, Israel would never have become a nation because the Hebrews had to win the land of Israel from the hands of the foreign nations who held it when they arrived from Egypt!
And the men and women who have died to defend our country deserve our respect and ONE DAY out of our year to remember them and to thank God for them.
This memorial day, before you go off for your picnics and fun, take the time to visit a cemetery and say thanks for all the flags you see flying over the graves of those who died. Then search out a veteran you know ... from whatever war ... and thank them for their service and for the bad memories they have endured for a lifetime so that you can go on your picnic and can say a blessing over your meal without being carted off to prison!
And to those of you who are veterans ... May God bless you with peace of mind and joy in your spirit for the rest of this life and an eternity with Him.
