I think the strangest thing about American politics is how the parties have turned 180 degrees from their missions when they were first started. In the mid-1800s, the REPUBLICAN party was the party of Abraham Lincoln ... also the party of anti-slavery and sufferage ... the DEMOCRAT party was for what was called "states' rights" ... the right of every state to decide for itself whether to allow slavery or not. In the early 1900s, if you had tapped a Klansman on the shoulder and asked him what party he voted for he would have gladly told you "The Democratic Party!" But because of a left-leaning, liberal press people have become convinced that the Republicans are against Civil Rights ... HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? Because the press knows that Hitler's Minister of Publicity, Hermann Goerring, was right, "If you tell a lie often enough and loud enough, the people soon begin to believe it." So ... even though "Bull Connor" (the Birmingham sheriff that sicced police dogs on Civil Rights marchers) and George Wallace (the Governor who stood on the steps of a school house and declared, "Coloreds will attend this school over my dead body!") as well as every other major figure who fought desegregation was DEMOCRAT ... the REPUBLICANS were "against Civil Rights" ... again ... just ... tell me how that works?????

There are a lot of African-American Christians out there who still vote Democrat. They have for generations and have not woken up to the fact that the Party has left them. To them, the Republican Party supports rich, white America and is against civil rights. To them, Republicans support segregation and work to oppress the poor. Of course, I don't agree with any of this but some of it used to be true and possibly still is with some members. I think these Christian Democrats would do well to wake up and realise that their Party has become the Party of secular humanism and is out to destroy capitalism, Christianity, and freedom.
Then again, many other Christians have not woken up to the fact that the Republican Party has left them. The Reps have done NOTHING to reverse Roe v Wade, even thought they had control of the Presidency for 20 of the last 28 years and had control of the Presidency, Senate, and House for 6 years (2000-2006.) They merely give lip service to keep their "base" from finding a Party who better reflects the teachings of Christ.
Very Well put Sassy. I agree wholeheartedly. I just pray that all those who are NOT seeing through the eyes and teachings of our Lord Jesus would become aware of their failure to support the God they claim to follow and love.
I continues to amaze me when I talk to some Christian Democrats (most of them actually), that they just cannot seem to get past their own personal wishes instead of looking at what Christ would say and do. Maybe, just maybe, they are not truely following Christ and are not Christians but just Democrats. Only the Lord know for sure but it does bring one to wonder.
Continue to pray for them to have their eyes opened and their minds cleared.

A TRUE, BORN-AGAIN CHRISTIAN CANNOT SUPPORT OR VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT. I'm a born-again Christian with a Kingdom world view. Being a Christian is not something I do (church work, helping poor, etc.) it is who I am, so it impacts - hopefully determines - everything I do. Jesus said: "He who is not with me, is against me." Mt.12:30 To be "with Jesus" is to stand alongside Him, to stand for the things He stands for, and against the things He stands against. For me it all boils down to either supporting those who support God's agenda, or supporting those who support depraved man's agenda. What God calls an abomination, or wicked, or perverse, or a sin - I must call an abomination, or wicked, or perverse, or a sin. As a Christian I agree with Christ - in all the teachings of the Bible. This country was founded on Christian values and those values became our laws. It was once illegal to participate in homosexual acts, or live together outside of marriage, or abort (murder) an unborn child. The Democrats are not simply tolerate of these evil practices, THEY WANT TO CHANGE THE LAWS OF OUR LAND. They've already made it legal to kill babies (abortion), next it will be legal to kill the elderly (already is in some states), they want to make it legal (thus acceptable) for homosexuals to marry (and receive all the benefits). In the 1st chapter of Romans, it is written that not only is it a sin to do these evil, perverse things, BUT IT IS ALSO A SIN TO APPROVE OF THOSE WHO DO THEM. To support and vote for the Democrats and their evil, depraved agenda is to take a stand against God's ways and what Jesus stands for.
(Don't get upset but think about what I'm saying).
1. God looks upon all men alike (He "is no respecter of persons") and we aren't to treat some men better than others because of their worldly position (giving them a seat of honor just because of who they are) ... but it looks like that is exactly what your church (and every church I've ever been to would do this too) did for William J. Clinton.
2. Wm. J. Clinton is at best a liar and perjurer and at worst a serial adulterer to whom was given access to your church's pulpit during a regular service ... if that had been any "commoner" who had been proven to be those things (or even simply someone who smoked, drank or didn't tithe) that pastor would NEVER have allowed access to the pulpit.
So ... where is Paul's advice with regards to treating all people alike regardless of social status?
As i said before ... I've never been in a church that wouldn't do the same things YOUR church did ... but what does that say about the church???

the funny thing is that Bill Clinton was at the church our Pastor use to pastor at in Ashville, NC, and Chelsea Clinton was at our Church that same day. The Pentecostals must have really made an impact on their life.
I wonder if they realize that pentecostals are probably like 95% Republican. Thats me on the right. I wanted to say, "you know your mom is going to lose right." haha I hope. Jesus Loves the Clintons too, what can I say.
If McCain Chooses a liberal candidate to run as his running mate, I will not vote for him! In other words he better choose a christian or at least a strong conservative before I'd vote. If not, then I am registering independant, and would encourage all christians to do so, if the political system seeks to scilence christian conservative voices. The republicans have really mad me mad this go around, and I might register independant anyway.
I agree with you...I cannot vote for a Dem....Many of the Dems here in the South like to consider themselves, blue dog or yellow dog Democrats...Whatever title you want to make, you are still indentifying with a national party that is by its own platform, very carnal and very unbiblical....
However, the Repubs are not far behind...How can a Christian justify voting for McCain?
Simply because you know as well as I do that if marriage (which is an estate ordained by God) becomes perverted and homosexuals are allowed to marry soon they will be claiming the "right" to adopt children. I don't believe homosexuality is genetically based (any more than other sin which is inborn) so ... where DO homosexuals come from? It 's sort of like the Shakers ... they died out because they believed that all sex was sin and only gained members from recruitment ... So why haven't homosexuals died out? Because they TRAIN CHILDREN. That means that those children who are so "trained" have lost their "right" to pursue happiness and their "right" to choose their own path to a great degree.

Good question, I hope you think my answer is just as good. Limits to our freedom should only exist to protect the freedoms of others. Murder (including abortion) should be illegal because other people have the right to live and pursue happiness. Speed limits because we have a right to safe travel. Theft is illegal because we have a right to own personal property. Every law written should pass this litmus test: Does it protect another person's rights?
Well ... the only thing I have to say about government not trying to legislate morality ... Then forget about it ... we shouldn't pass laws about abortion, murder, theft, civil rights ... whatever. Any law is an attempt to legislate morality ... so where does it end?

If McCain gets the Republican nomination, it will be a great election for a strong third party candidate. I think one could actually win. Anyway, Bob, back to your question. I'll ask you one: How can a Christian vote for lukewarm Republicans (and they all are except for Ron Paul) who are for smaller, but still HUGE government, give only lip service to the pro-life crowd and do NOTHING, and support any war that comes along? Also, I don't agree that Jesus would be anti-gay politically. I think God wants us to be free to make wrong choices and then to choose Him. Yes, the gay agenda is out of control. But whose fault is that? Washington DC? No, the blame belongs squarely on the Church (you and me included.) In America, government should not try to impose morality, the Church should be out there fulfilling the Great Commission and changing people from the inside out. That is what Jesus would do. So, how can a Christian vote for a Democrat? I ask, "How can ANYONE with a brain vote Democrat?"
This idea has bothered me for many years, too. The idea of voting for someone who opposes all we as Christians believe in ... that's just beyond my ability to grasp ... "voting my pocketbook" isn't conceivable to me when that means voting for someone who supports the killing of babies and the adoption of children by homosexual "couples". That said ... how can a Christian vote for McCain? Doesn't he suppport of a lot of Democrat-like views? Think about it ... if McCain is nominated (which now seems likely) and there is no place to write in an alternate ... I'm going to walk out of the booth without voting for president because I don't want to be responsible for voting either a Democrat or a "Republicrat" into office!

One of the things that I trouble with greatly is my trying to figure out how someone who is truly a Christian can vote for anyone on the Democratic ticket. The Democratic party stands for big government, gay rights, pro-abortion, etc. As far as I can tell, the Bible teaches us to be apart from all three of these things. AND, these three things are major issues.
When thinking about these three issues try thinking about them with Jesus in the discussion. You are getting ready to vote and Jesus is standing next to you in the voting booth. Could you really vote for a democrat knowing Jesus is watching? Would He agree that voting for a democrat is ok even though you would be voting to continue to kill unborn babies? Same goes with voting for a democrat knowing they are going to promote gay rights, etc. Would Jesus really approve or do we really vote with God in mind?
I just cannot agree with the liberal way at all. IF I was not a Christian, then without a doubt, voting Democrat would be my vote because I would probably want to Government to continue to get bigger and expand government programs even thought we cannot afford the taxes now.
I believe we should vote for what is best for the world in regards to the Kingdom of Christ not what is best for the world in regards to our own pocketbooks or personal wants and wishes.
What do you think?
