My deepest apologies!
The story is so heavily covered here (near the seat of the Joyce Meyers ministry) I forgot it may not have been common news elsewhere!
check out ABC news at: abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=4057519 this is basically the story shown on the Forgotten Word homepage ...

I found the AP story and it sounds to me like this is Congress overreaching their authority. If the IRS wanted to investigate, that would be understandable, but this is none of the Congress' business. I'm a little surprised that it is a Republican senator spearheading it.

Could you post a link so we can make informed responses? I don't know what the case is about.

Okay.
We all know that most of those who participate in this site agree about the questionable "spiritual standing" of Word of Faith preachers ... but how do you feel about the government coming in and starting "investigations" into these ministries' doings?
While I agree that "something" should be done, I'm not sure siccing the government on these people is either wise or safe.
The law rests mightily on "precedents" ... and for a senator to come in and begin to demand that a ministry hand over their records for an investigation frankly scares me to death!
If they get away with this precedent-setting case, what will stop them from doing the same thing to a ministry that ... say ... lobbies against abortion or preaches openly against homosexuality?
How about your OWN church? If the good senator can demand to see the records of Joyce Meyers, why can't he see the records of YOUR church, YOUR minister ... HOW MUCH DID YOU GIVE LAST YEAR? WHERE DID THAT MONEY GO? DID IT SUPPORT SOMETHING THE GOVERNMENT DISAPPROVES OF? HOW ABOUT YOUR "CONFIDENTIAL" COUNSELING RECORDS? Where will it stop?
What do you think? Are you willing to allow this precedent to stand? Why or why not?
