oops............. apparently links get removed.
so Ill try this addendum:
search "sword of the Lord " for the bible software
and "congregation melech yisrael" for messianic jewish teachings on Christs message from His Hebrew roots perspective. Hebrew for beginners at its best...Doc

My studies and understanding of the Bible took a leap when I went to the ancient original languages. I agree with an an Interlinear Greek / English bible with a literal translation.
Example: 1) look up ; right " hand " of G_d. Right is never in the Greek. => personification of The devine.
2) Yohanan (John) lays on Christs "breast" (Grk) , look up what the english translation is!
3) "Devil" guess what? The word does not exist in Greek, but the qualities of the persona do.
All fun and enlightening stuff.
The same goes for the Hebrew bible. Interlinear is basically not accurate because of language technacalities but e-sword is best unless you study hebrew. Ive been at it for 3 years now and the depth is amazing. I recomend a messianic jewish site like
You can get all these for free from The sword of the Lord. You can see the 1560s first bible also. Enjoy and
Blessings Doc................

If you're talking about a Bible for study ... absolutely go with the parallel ... you can compare the translations and even dig through Strongs to help you see. Each translation has its strong and weak points.
For everyday reading (could you call it "light"?) Bible reading ... in other words, when I want to grab a little nourishment while I can (such as while I'm at work and have a minute) I use a Living TRANSLATION (not a living letters). It's a good faithful translation and very easy to understand (which makes it a great witnessing Bible). aww

A parrallel Bible is nice. I prefer the King James and NKJV because of the family of manuscripts they comes from is, I believe, the superior family. The NKJV uses the Textus Receptus and the Alexandrian manuscripts...but remains very similar to the KJV. In my ministry, I use the NKJV which is quite good but I refer to other translations as well for clarification. For purposes of teaching/preaching I stick with NKJV because I believe it is good to be consistent and teach from one translation all the time.

BTW....a good site on textual issues, particularly, KJV onlyism- check out www.kjvonly.org

Not a bad choice. I prefer the NASB because all of my professors in Bible College who knew Greek said that it was the closest one to the Greek. You may also look into an interlinear Greek/ English Bible. It has the Greek with the Strong's number right under the English so you can easily do word studies. It's a great tool if you really want to dig in.

I'm about to purchase a new Bible for study purposes and was thinking of a comparative 4 column. Opinions?
